How your mindset shapes your reality

What you tell yourself matters! If you think you can’t do something, you won’t be able to. If you think something is too hard, it will be. If you run through all the reasons why a task is going to be miserable, the task will be miserable. Why? Well, YOU have decided that is the way it is! What you think & say engraves itself into your belief system and becomes your reality! BUT, if you change “I can’t” into “I’ll try” your chances of success already improve! If you view something hard as a challenge to be conquered, you will power through it! If you take your focus off of what could possibly suck about a task, and instead zone in on the reason the task is important, you will push yourself for the feeling you get when you accomplish something! See how mindset matters and how YOUR THOUGHTS could be what is keeping you from accomplishing dreams and growing?

Something I learned pretty quick in my journey of self discovery is how important my thoughts and words were. Where I saw a road block, others around me saw something to overcome and help you grow. In situations I dreaded being apart of, I found others picking out all the good things that I never even saw. These people seemed happier, less stressed, and generally great people to be around. Not just that, but in most aspects of their lives they were thriving! What secret did they know that I had yet to learn? It was right around that time I discovered the very popular Netflix documentary “The Secret” & quickly jumped into the Law of Attraction scene with little desire to look back. Within a year I was certified through The Global Sciences Foundation with Dr. Steve Jones & Dr Joe Vitale & who participated in the popular Netflix series.

Each week of March 2022 I have shared a tool I used in my journey that I now coach others in as owner of Mystikal Rootz. First we covered Journaling and the benefits of putting your thoughts on paper or on an online format. We threw the “rules” that may have made you feel like a failure, and made Journaling doable for most! Next we learned the benefits of meditation to help you slow down thinking patterns, be in the present moment, & decrease stress levels to bring more calm to your daily life. If you have in fact taken the steps in each of those blogs, you’re brain is ready for a shift in your mindset! If not, no worries. If you would like to go back before you move forward, those 2 blogs can be found here: https://mystikalmusings.com/2022/02/28/journaling/ https://mystikalmusings.com/2022/03/06/can-you-meditate/

What is the Law of Attraction?

Well, simply put the Law of Attraction is based on the belief that your thoughts dictate your human experience. Think life sucks? Your life probably sucks! Do you think everyone else gets the lucky breaks while you struggle? You will keep struggling and watching everyone get those “lucky breaks”. Your thoughts, outlook, attitude, and words have way more power than you know. Whether you believe in God, a higher power, or the energy of the Universe; just know that you are attracting what you think and believe is your reality. The Law of Attraction isn’t based in religion, so the principle applies regardless of your faith, it just is! For instance, when we say “UGH Mondays suck.” Your manifesting, or wishing if you will, for Mondays to suck! (Believe me, I tried this out and switched to saying “Wednesday and I struggle being friends.” Sure enough, Mondays started being wonderful and Wednesday began to suck!)

Many of those people who you may think are getting “lucky breaks” aren’t really lucky at all. They have the mindset that things will always work out for them AND they believe it! If you believe amazing things are in store for you, the likely hood of those things coming to you skyrockets. The Law of Attraction doesn’t care if you’re a decent human or an ego driven jerk either. Think about this…How many times have you seen a full on asshole catch “lucky breaks” in life over and over, while you’re kind to everyone and never catch a “lucky break”? That jerk believes he deserves good fortune. That jerk probably doesn’t wake up in the morning feeling sorry for himself, he is waking up with the attitude of “The world is my playground and I am king!” His mindset is that he is deserving, regardless of his character, he will attract what he believes he deserves.

You may be thinking “Ummm…So you’re saying I need to turn into an ego driven asshole?” NO! Not at all! Those of us who live a life of service, love, and compassion for others DO NOT need to become jerks for the Law of Attraction to work. We just need a mindset adjustment, a change in the language we use internally & verbally, & a sprinkle of gratitude! See, those of us with a kinder character feel more deeply. When a small thing goes wrong, it’s hard for us to not focus on how that made us feel and then get stuck there. We end up feeling defeated, so we are. Those who are ego driven won’t admit defeat and believe whatever went wrong was suppose to happen. (They are actually right, even if their ego is giving them that mindset) Think of how many times things seemed as if they were ruined, just for everything to turn out better than expected BECAUSE things didn’t work out as originally planned. Remember the gratitude you felt in those moments when “Everything worked out for the best.” That gratitude feeling is what you will use to take place of jerk ego.

What’s gratitude have to do with it?

Gratitude has everything to do with having a brighter out look and improved mindset. The act or feeling of being thankful makes those feel good endorphins grow, which immediately shifts focus from negative to positive, which then in turn opens your mind to find solutions in problems. When you’re seeing solutions instead of feeling defeated, you keep plugging away instead of giving up. If you’re always giving up will you ever realize your dreams? More than likely not. Plus the Law of Attraction brings to you what your focus is on. If you’re focused on gratitude for what went right, more things are going to go right!!

The science behind gratitude is actually extremely mind blowing! Research shows gratitude has the ability to improve your physical, mental and spiritual health & more benefits are being found with each new study. Neuroscientist Glenn Fox is an expert in the Science of Gratitude at the USC Marshall School of Business. His findings can be found here: https://news.usc.edu/163123/gratitude-health-research-thanksgiving-usc-experts/ . If you’re a science minded person, Harvard Medical School, UCLA, and numerous others have done studies on gratitude and have made them available in a quick google search. (Warning: The study of gratitude and mindfulness has exploded in recent years and there is A LOT of proven benefits. If you are a science minded person, the info you find may 100% sway you towards a more mindful & grateful life. Get ready to make a commitment to a new way of living cuz…WELL SCIENCE!!)

Addressing Toxic Positivity

There is a phrase out there called “Toxic Positivity” and many have snuggled it in with a Gratitude Mindset. To clear that misinformation up, Toxic Positivity is when someone sugar coats absolutely everything negative or unpleasant you or someone else is feeling. It is the complete refusal to feel and deal with hard feelings and instead downplay those feelings by covering them with a smile or positive spin to cover up or hide an uncomfortable human experience. This is not the same thing as a Gratitude Mindset although others around you may label it that way. As I stated in my blog linked above on journaling, we NEED to feel hard emotions. I also stated in the blog on meditation linked also above, we NEED to recognize suffering as part of life, while not causing ourselves unnecessary suffering. A gratitude Mindset doesn’t require you to act like there is no problem, it’s an invitation to see whats “wrong”, recognize it for what it is, and investigate what is “right” and be thankful for it. For instance (because I always like examples) A loved one passes & your in charge of arrangements… Toxic Positivity: You DO NOT GRIEVE but instead smile, stay busy and focused on arrangements. You only speak about happy times with the person and any hint at someone asking how you are is diverted with something like “I’m perfectly fine and focusing on them being in a better place.” Then quickly changing the subject. You do not allow tears to fall or difficult feelings to be felt. OR Feelings of grief wash over you and you wonder how you can manage the task at hand. Instead of being allowed to feel those feelings you have someone constantly saying things to “make it better” and ALWAYS trying to shift you from your grief you need to feel because they are thinking they are helping. Someone forcing gratitude on you when you need to also feel hard feelings can for sure be labeled Toxic Positivity. Gratitude Mindset: You feel the grief that falls on those left behind. You have gratitude that such an important task was assigned to you. You cry when you feel the waves of emotion that happen with grief and when not crying, you’re grateful for the memories that drift in randomly to make you smile. You feel everything, aren’t stuck in only grief, and still are able to complete the task that was bestowed on you. OR You’re filled with grief & unable to move out of it for even a moment, you’re stuck. Someone sits with you in your grief and then gently reminds you of a funny memory, which triggers other funny memories. As tears dry that someone reminds you that you always have those memories to help you smile, and in turn a feeling of gratitude washes over you for the time you had with your loved one.

You can see the fine line between the two and how even in the act of trying to be compassionate towards another, you could actually be causing harm. Sugar coating things and sweeping hard shit under the rug is toxic. Seeing a difficult situation realistically and choosing to be grateful for the positives you can see is healthy. Nowhere in a Gratitude Mindset are you required to ignore the bad stuff. Feel the hard feelings and then bring in gratitude so you don’t just camp out in your misery! Again, theres a fine line but I think the differences are pretty clear.

Bringing it all together

A change in mindset requires a mind that is ready for change. As we explore different tools in the self discovery process, it is important that we begin with simple small changes and work up. I have taken a strategically thought out approach to Sunday posts in this March of 2022 to work your way up with. When we begin our path, getting all those emotions and thoughts out in a journal will help clean out some clutter from your mind. Then you are ready to try to sit down and BE with your thoughts while not acting on them. A mindful approach to life follows a meditation practice and sets you up to be more aware of your thoughts. That brings us here, to this post, where I ask you to pay attention to those thoughts to make sure they mirror what you want your reality to be.

These March self help tools posted on Sundays should each be about a month long in practicing before moving to the next tool, so there is no rush! Remember it takes 30 days to form those habits and you don’t need to overwhelm or push yourself. This is a process you must trust for it to fully work, and it definitely works! Patience is key and rushing from one tool to the next before you’re ready, can pretty much guarantee frustration due to not being ready yet. Take a mindful approach so your not causing yourself unnecessary suffering!

To wrap up, there are numerous studies on the power of thought. What we are telling ourselves, how we speak about our experiences, and how we feel about ourselves internally is all mirrored in our daily existence. Shifting our thoughts to a more positive dialog when in a crisis, will help you see solutions. A life of less complaining and more gratitude will give you more to be grateful for, because your training your brain to see all the things going right in your life. A change in mindset has been scientifically proven to to have a positive effect on you mental, emotional, and physical health. And lastly, whether you believe in it or not, the Law of Attraction is working for you every moment of your day. Your manifested life is literally everything you think it is!
