As I have stated in previous posts, we have had some plot twists that kept us from the move we planned to TN. I also promised to share the details of the chaos we have survived but feel there will be a more appropriate time to do that in the future. Currently we are focusing on the positive things, finding things to be excited about, and creating a life we dreamed of but bringing it down to the earth plane sooner than first imagined. Wyoming was a wonderful place to grow up and get my foundation but I couldn’t grow anymore there. A move had been planned already & nothing and nobody was keeping us there. So….
WE BOUGHT A TRUCK AND TRAVEL TRAILER FOR FULL TIME RV LIFE!! I have affectionately named the trailer Petunia and hubby named the truck Phyllis! Haha Currently we are boon docking on our friends, Tom & Angie’s property on a huge ranch that has sold off plots in Northern Arizona. There is a large off grid community here for knowledge about solar, RV parts, repair, and remodeling, and most importantly friends who are family. I can look out the window to my right and see Juniper trees, Mormon tea bushes and hilly landscapes below white fluffy clouds & blue skies. I look out the window to my left through the kitchen and see red dirt roads, little RV family compounds far in the distance, more trees and the afternoon monsoon rainstorm moving in. Nature all around and right out the front door! (Did you hunt wildflowers today? I did!)
As I type we are exactly at one week since leaving Wyoming. We made it here on Friday night and were led into the property Saturday morning. (Monsoon rains have washed out many roads) We are very aware this life won’t be easy but it will be more simple. We downsized to the point of having extra room, my husband has already replaced the kitchen faucet and seal on the toilet, and we are going to convert our generator to propane because it is cheaper to run than gas. We were able to venture out of the property yesterday to go to surrounding towns for supplies and I am in love with the little town nearest to us! Hubby will find a part time job so we can start stashing away cash, I will find my people in the community AND all my services are now virtual, and we have the gift of time to make adjustments to Petunia and get to know all her ways.
Why RV Life? Well, we technically have lived a nomadic life each summer anyway. This makes things a bit different due to repairs and such that are inevitable, but much more comfortable than a tent or seats down in the jeep and cheaper than a hotel. We are use to traveling all over and meeting new people. We love each others company and are ok without a stable sticks and bricks type lifestyle that for sure didn’t have the view I am looking at now. The life of go to work, come home, vent about work, eat dinner, go to bed, collect paycheck, pay rent, then do it again next month just feels like your wasting your life away waiting for time to actually LIVE! We decided to not choose that anymore…
My mom told me years ago she never pictured me in a house with a picket fence and a 9-5 job. She felt I would go finish her hippy/nomadic lifestyle that she had to give up because yours truly came along! Lol I guess she was right and the “Hippy” drained into my DNA! My husband is a photographer and life on the road gives him more areas to photograph and offer his clients and followers. When we set out and get hooked up with being camp hosts, National Parks will be our front yard, National Forests will be our playgrounds, and we will make everyones lives we host a little bit better than they were before they visit the campground we manage. My Virgo husband has researched this lifestyle to death and when it came down to the decision we jumped with the phrase “If not now, then when?”
For the time being though, we are home! Home in Petunia, home with each other, and home with friends who are family. We plan to be in this area through the winter and fully submerse ourselves in everything we need to know about our new home. We weren’t ever able to take her out for trial camping trips to make sure everything was in proper working order and so far, there have been minor fixes needed. I have rearranged 5 times and will probably do so 25 more…Lol. Kiddos have begun school in Georgia and are loving time with their momma. We are so excited for them all to have real quality time with each other as opposed to just a few months in the summer. Co-Parenting can be beautiful and successful when everyone leads with love and compassion. Plus, how cool will it be for ALL of us to go camping together!!
As we began telling friends and family that we had chosen this for our next move, we were definitely met with some questions. Why anyone is putting THIER energy into trying to understand OUR lives is weird but whatever. Some people want to pay rent/mortgage, work 9-5, and save whatever they have left to travel “someday”. We are taking the money we would spend on rent, working remotely, and traveling NOW while we are young enough to explore! The thought of saving money and traveling as a senior citizen makes me sad because as I sit here typing this, I want to be out hiking and exploring. That may not be possible as one gets older. We are far from rich but we live within our means if not less. We don’t need the fancy things. We need memories, adventure, and living our lives to the ultimate extreme! We are a different kind of rich…
So although our original plan thankfully failed, and I say “thankfully” because the area in TN we were moving to has been flooding like crazy, we are so grateful. Grateful for a forced pause on life, thankful for plans not working, thankful for chaos that helps force you from comfort zones, and thankful for where we have landed. The Universe has a fucked up way sometimes of stopping you in your tracks BUT has amazing abilities to have your back and put you where you need to be. As they say, “When life gives you lemons, make lemonade!” This old saying has been another mantra of ours…
