YouTube was NEVER in my personal plans of something to dive into. I am not tech savvy, I don’t enjoy editing, and for me personally I will not be in the ocean of Astrologers on YouTube. No thank you, hard pass, not happening, PERIOD!
Enter my husband…. A Virgo photographer, with his Saturn also in Virgo with his Sun, resting in his 10th house of career, goals and status. This may make no sense to you but that’s ok, this post isn’t about Astrology. I just should have seen this coming based on that certain natal astrology. He has ALL the things… A website to sell his images, all the socials, a blog helping to give tips on photography, and yes he has a YouTube Channel. Up until recently, he uploaded videos about settings, how to use editing programs, a little of the behind the scenes of our trips we take to get the photos, and just some funny little shorts. He had some FB & IG followers subscribe and picked up some through YouTube suggesting him but nothing huge. He got really good at creating these videos but that means nothing when they aren’t being seen. He got burned out on talking about the same things and honestly just wanted to enjoy our hikes and the trips we take to get there.
A few months ago he brought up bringing me into a video. “You just have to stand there” I was told and I agreed. He threw me into 2-3 short videos in which he didn’t tell me anything of what he was doing which ensured he got authentic reactions from me, which evidently are entertaining. It was fun and cute and then he dug into the last half of the school year (he is also a bus driver) and videos were hard as creativity was nill. Over Spring Break we headed to Sedona a bunch of times as it is a day trip for us, and he pulled out his phone a few times and put us both in the video talking about the hike we were on and had me record him taking a few shots. He then made that video and added in the pics I recorded him snapping. His spark was returning…. The next trip had him recording the Interstate and Oak Creek Canyon as I zipped passed semi trucks and navigated the canyon switchbacks. Those were added to a new video where he again caught me off guard while hiking where I again said who knows what, and he added pics he took on our hike.
A month or so went by and drops of things like “Remember how we were talking about starting a YouTube Channel when were decided to do Full Time RV Life?” and “I wish we thought about recording when we have these kind of hilarious moments”. The funny thing is, I was wanting to start a YouTube when we began this life but that is when we assumed we could travel more than what we ended up doing. LOTS of unpredictable things came in and we have been happy exactly where we are for the time being. So that thought moved out of my head. That was also before he began his weight loss journey and got a desire to stop just doing roadside photography and get back into the canyons and into the forests to help motivate him. Getting to hike with my husband/best friend has me so damn excited I can’t even put it in words. I really thought my hiking days were over as I was not hiking alone in new areas in a new state. Those hikes are a blast and we entertain the heck out of each other! Perfect YouTube content to be honest which was actually proven by the couple of times he put our banter in his photography videos.
The last day of school came and the day after we celebrated by heading out of town to possibly find some cactus blooms. This was best possible down south of us and as we got ready he says “Do you want to play around with making an adventure video? Like us on our way and then stop at the Morenci Mine and showing people how huge it is? You just have to be you and I will edit and put something together!” As a woman who truly wants to support her husband’s passion, I agreed to give it a shot and our first video was dropped. His followers really thought it was cool and loved seeing the behind the scenes. It was a cute little video and fun to make, I just wasn’t sure where we were going with this…. THEN I HEARD IT! “Field Trips!” That was what my friend Arlene use to say we took her on when I would use my Marco Polo app to send her a video of an adventure we were on. She was home bound often and lived life through our videos. She BEGGED me to do a YouTube Channel but it just felt cliche and putting ourselves in a saturated genre. She passed away almost exactly a year ago and would be screaming YES to my husbands nudges. After all, so many of my husbands followers also follow his photography because they can’t get out there to see these amazing landscapes.
With this in mind, we have officially decided to give it a go. At the very least, our friends, family and followers can get an inside look into our shenanigans. At the most, we will gain traction and this will become another avenue to earn an income! Sooooo, that being said, do you want to go on a field trip with us? Here is a link to our first video: HERE ! Be sure to subscribe and show us grace for now as we are learning mics, wind issues, music muting if I have my playlist on (copyright), and just our flow. We are silly and most importantly we are REAL and as authentic as it comes. Nothing is scripted and your bound to get some giggles! So come with us and watch this part of our journey from it’s birth!!
